Newcastle-under-Lyme College minimises materials on new campus

We helped Newcastle-under-Lyme College reduce material and installation costs through value-engineering and product rationalisation.

The project at Newcastle-under-Lyme College focused on collaborating more effectively to reduce materials as well as site and installation costs by reducing double layer partitions to single layer, increasing impact performance beyond a ‘Severe Duty’ rating, and improving “lifetime build” by increasing internal flexibility.

By working closely with the main contractor, we completed a value-engineering and product rationalisation exercise on the works package. This incorporated several ‘new to market’ innovative products to assist in installation cost reduction whilst delivering enhanced system performance and improved ‘buildability’ on site.

For this project, we also removed the requirement for double boarding on the majority of the original partition types. This was further rationalised to significantly reduce the number of board and metal variants required. The use of bespoke board lengths also allowed a significant reduction in plasterboard waste on site.

We care about building better.
