GypLyner Universal Ceiling Lining

Concealed grid ceiling lining system

GypLyner Universal is a versatile ceiling lining system suitable for a wide range of installations, ranging from residential properties to large commercial developments. Simple to install, and compatible with the full range of British Gypsum boards, GypLyner Universal can be used to significantly improve performance levels in a refurbishment project and can also be used for new build installations.

  • A versatile system that is suitable for concrete soffits or timber joists, and utilises the same components for either wall or ceiling installations
  • Can also be installed onto a plasterboard ceiling, making it ideal for refurbishment projects where it is desirable or necessary to retain the existing ceiling
  • Ideal for meeting the diverse range of performance requirements of modern construction - compatible with the full range of British Gypsum boards, including Gyproc, Glasroc, Gyptone and Rigitone ranges
  • Minimal loss of room height with as little as 25mm cavity required
  • Fire and acoustic performance upgrades can be achieved with access to the underside of the floor only
  • Sound absorption: 0.35 - 0.85 (aw)
  • Sound insulation airbourne: 52 - 63 (Rw dB)
  • Sound insulation impact: 66 - 55 (Lnw dB)
  • Fire resistance: 30 - 90 (mins)

How do you fire upgrade a lath & plaster ceiling?

Underdraw the existing lath and plaster with chicken wire, then form a new ceiling underneath by counter battening with timber or by using our GypLyner UNIVERSAL system.

How do you upgrade the fire and/or acoustic performance of a timber floor from below?

We offer a wide range of ceiling systems for this purpose including GypLyner UNIVERSAL and CasoLine MF.

Do you recommend plastering over sanded lime backgrounds?

No, we would recommend instead drylining using GypLyner UNIVERSAL. Please refer to White Book Chapter 07 Section 04 Page 02 for more details.

How do I dot & dab plasterboard to concrete columns and walls?

The DriLyner BASIC system is ideal for concrete surfaces that are stable and free of release agents.

For smooth concrete surfaces, use Thistle Bond-It to provide a key for the Gyproc DriWall Adhesive. Use a roller to apply it in bands where the adhesive will be applied; you will be able to see it while dot and dabbing as it’s green in colour.

The concrete background should be reasonably dry and protected from the weather. Brush it down to remove dust before applying Thistle Bond-It or adhesive.

You can use Gyproc Sealant as an alternative to drywall adhesive when working on smooth concrete backgrounds. This also helps to minimise air gaps between boards, improving acoustic and thermal performance. Apply it to the perimeter of the wall, and around any service penetrations or openings.

For more advice on dot and dabbing, see our in-depth article. You can also refer to the DriLyner section of our Site Book for specific installation guidance.
