How do you protect a steel column within a masonry wall?

Our FireCase system can be used to provide fire protection to steel columns within a masonry wall.

The thickness of Glasroc F FireCase board to be applied will depend on the section factor of the structural steel (A/V), if you need help with calculating this please get in touch with us by filling out the Technical Enquiry Form.

What centres are Gypframe GL1 Lining Channels, Gypframe GL2 Brackets, Gypframe GL9 Brackets, and Gypframe GL12 Brackets installed when fixing Gyproc plasterboard (GypLyner wall & GypLyner ceiling systems)?

For wall constructions the Gypframe GL1 Lining Channels are located at 600mm centres and Gypframe GL2 Brackets or Gypframe GL9 Brackets are located at 800mm centres (based upon not receiving ceramic tiles).

For ceiling constructions the Gypframe GL1 Lining Channels are located at 450mm (for 12.5mm lining) or 600mm centres (for 15mm lining) and Gypframe GL2 Brackets, Gypframe GL9 Brackets or Gypframe GL12 Brackets are located at 1200mm centres.

Does water damaged plasterboard need to be replaced?

Generally yes, the board should be removed and replaced with an equivalent Gyproc product to maintain the original performance criteria.

This would certainly be the case where boards can be seen to be ‘bowed’, suffering with mould growth or where paper de-lamination has occurred. Other instances such as surface wetting, which may dry out relatively quickly, could still develop water stains or mould requiring remedial treatment/action at a later stage of the project.

What are the screw fixing centres for partitions, ceilings & encasements?

In general terms for partitions, screws are located at 300mm centres (200mm centres at external angles). For ceiling systems, the screws are located at 230mm centres within the field of the board and 150mm centres at board ends. For encasement systems, screws are located at 150mm centres.

However, these general guidelines may vary depending upon the system being used so always check against specific systems for your reference.

Can I plaster straight onto a painted wall?

Plastering on existing painted walls is only possible if the paint and the substrate in which the paint is applied are both in very good condition.

In terms of adhesion and cleanliness, and with the application of Thistle Bond-it prior to plastering. We suggest carrying out this procedure on a trial area to determine the suitability (adhesion).
