Frequently asked question

Why don’t you show a deflection head on Timber Stud partition?

Generally timber stud framing is not flexible in terms of allowing deflection at the head. We do not recommend using Gypframe metal channel as the head plate in timber stud partitions, mainly because the shrinkage inherent with timber would mean the studs would become loose in the head channel leading to problems with lateral stability. British Gypsum lightweight non-loadbearing Gypframe metal stud partitions can easily incorporate deflection heads and are a much easier design option when accommodating vertical movement from the floor or roof above is a requirement.
