Secured by Design system launch is a success
Our new Secured by Design (SBD) approved Gypwall QUIET System is successfully launched
Our new Secured by Design (SBD) approved Gypwall QUIET System - the first system available on the market tested to comply with the SBD attack requirement, as well as fire and acoustic regulations - was officially launched on the 10th April at The Saint-Gobain Multi-Comfort Visitor Centre in London to press, customers and partners.
Last year London based plasterers, S D Plastering, approached SBD to seek their advice on how best to overcome the technical challenges of installing wall systems that complied with SBD’s robust security standards. One of the biggest challenges was achieving a durable outcome that avoided adding extra materials, such as plywood or metal, which would only add to time and costs, especially as there was no test evidence for these solutions.
We became involved in the project and worked closely with SBD and S D Plastering on the development of GypWall QUIET, incorporating Gyproc Habito. This work resulted in the product being tested and certified by an independent UK Accreditation Service (UKAS) certification authority, and subsequently accredited by Secured by Design, the national police crime prevention initiative, for achieving its rigorous Police Preferred Specification standards. Passing this test makes GypWall QUIET the first system available on the market that fulfils the SBD attack requirement, as well as fire and acoustic regulations.
GypWall QUIET is a non-loading, twin framed acoustic separating wall, which has been designed for use within apartments, where high levels of acoustic performance are required. Gyproc Habito plasterboard has been included within the new system as it features an engineered core, which provides enhanced levels of strength, durability and fixability, resulting in walls that are more resistant to damage and can support a range of fixtures and fittings.
We received very positive feedback from the event, which featured presentations from Guy Ferguson, CEO of Secured by Design; Dave Martin, Senior Site Manager at L&Q, one of the UK’s leading housing associations piloting the new system across 61 apartments in Erith, and Mark Dixon, Director of S D Plastering. The presenters spoke about how the system would help provide straightforward installation on site, robust security to meet SBD standards and the simple yet practical benefits of the GypWall QUIET system - which is in fact more cost effective, as it eliminates the requirement of extra material such as plywood.
