Solution
To prepare for the colossal challenge, Terry attended trade shows and exhibitions, and visited the National Self Build and Renovation Centre in Swindon. His research revealed the importance of a ‘fabric first’ approach, which meant investing in the quality of the build before focusing on luxury interiors. This would give them a long-lasting and comfortable home that required very little maintenance.
At the exhibitions, Terry learned how a whole host of British Gypsum products could transform his project. Our technical team helped him alter his designs to incorporate Gyptone Quattro 41 acoustic ceiling boards, reducing reverberation time from 5 to just 0.8 seconds to create excellent sound quality throughout the space. He said, “I like to make a lot of noise and it’s allowed me to live in the house how I want to.”
Terry also came across the super strong Gyproc Habito plasterboard. He explains, “Having been frustrated by flimsy walls and standard plasterboard in previous properties, I immediately saw the benefits of Gyproc Habito in its durability and design flexibility. It also made fitting the kitchen much easier, as I could hang the cabinets directly from the walls using just standard no. 10 woodscrews.”
Terry visited our Technical Training Academy at East Leake to learn how to install the board, picking up techniques including dot and dabbing and taping and jointing. The technical team even visited Terry’s building site to offer advice.
Further, the CasoLine MF suspended ceiling system allowed him to hide supporting beams inside his double-height living space to achieve a sleek and seamless look.
Terry summed up his successful project, saying: “Building a home from scratch is no easy task and to do it properly, you’ve got to get expert advice. The help and support I’ve received from British Gypsum throughout the project has been second to none – I really couldn’t have achieved all of this without it.”
