Bond Over Beer in Hemel Hempstead
19 July 2017
Real craft ales for real craftsmen; read what happened at our Bond Over Beer event at the Paper Mill pub in Hemel Hempstead
British Gypsum regularly attends and runs events aimed at meeting plasterers from across the country, with its Bond Over Beer evenings a prime example.
Readers may already be aware of the concept; Bond Over Beer brings together local plasterers for a fun and informative night of product demos, networking and of course beer. This time, the event took place at the Paper Mill pub in Hemel Hempstead - and was attended by 20 local plasterers.
The night started with a demo of Thistle Bonding 60. Chases of Thistle BondingCoat and Thistle Bonding 60 were both applied at the same time – and as the product promises, it was Thistle Bonding 60 that set and was ready to skim within the 60-minute time limit.
Next up was a demo of ThistlePro DuraFinish, a specialist finish plaster providing 60% more resistance to accidental damage in the home. ThistlePro DuraFinish was applied to a sample piece of plasterboard, so those in attendance could see how it differed to standard finish; it requires a wetter mix and although it feels unfamiliar, it gives the toughest finish when set.
The evening ended with a pub quiz, with winners ‘Team TPF’ receiving a tool of their choice from Plasterers One Stop Shop. There was also a raffle with prizes from Marshalltown, Nela, Speedskim and Makita.
All the attendees went home with British Gypsum merchandise and product samples were available for anyone wanting to start putting what they’d learnt into practice.
British Gypsum’s Plaster Demonstrators also arranged a number of site visits with plasterers who had not used Thistle Bonding 60 or ThistlePro DuraFinish before. These demonstrations are invaluable for plasterers with any questions or concerns, to give them absolute confidence in our new products.
Speaking after the event, Vincent of V J Edwards Plastering & Building Services commented:
"It has been a great night spent with some good people. As a business it’s essential we keep up to date with the latest innovation in the market and tonight gave us the opportunity to do just that.”
Luke of LDR Plasterers Ltd said:
“I’ve come along tonight to see a range of new products. I feel it’s important to get to see these products first hand. Overall I found the demos very useful, they were to the point and informative – more people should come along to these events when they’re in the local area.”
Martin of Top Finish Ltd and the winner of the top prize for the evening commented:
“It’s been good to get together with local tradesmen. My primary objective in coming was to see the products with my own eyes. It’s important to get to grips with these goods before we use them in action. To top the night off I’m taking home a free on-site radio!”
