Janet Isibor (SPA Performance Manager)
Relocating to a British Gypsum plant over 300 miles away might seem daunting. However, with the support of her new team, Janet soon settled in and adjusted to her surroundings.
We catch up with her to find out how she is getting on.
Tell us about your career at British Gypsum so far?
I graduated from university in 2007 with a degree in Chemical and Process engineering. British Gypsum was the first place I worked and I started at Kirkby Thore site as a Graduate Chemical Engineer, before relocating to join the Robertsbridge team at the other end of the country five years later.
At Robertsbridge I’ve been able to apply the skills I learned at Kirkby Thore and have successfully completed several improvement projects, which led to me being promoted to Stucco Preparation Area (SPA) Performance Manager. I’m really enjoying the challenges that come with this role.
What were the first couple of months working at British Gypsum like?
I remember on my first day here the Plant Manager made me feel very welcome and introduced me to everyone, despite his busy schedule. He really took the time out to make sure I settled in well. It was a particularly challenging time for me too, because I had just moved to a new area with my six-month-old child. However, everyone at the company was very accommodating and helped me feel part of the team.
What’s it like working for Saint-Gobain?
It’s absolutely brilliant to work for such a strong market leader and with such talented people. When I first started at British Gypsum I had a lot of local support and never felt alone – there was always someone I could consult with when I needed it. More recently, I’ve been working with the Saint-Gobain Research and Process Innovation team on a number of improvement projects, which has been an invaluable learning experience that I would like to continue to develop.
What’s it like to work at Robertsbridge?
I think it’s great to work here. Personally, I believe that working with a team of people from different backgrounds and different skills can truly bring about great performance and success. At Robertsbridge, not only do we achieve all of this – we also have fun while we’re doing it.
