Fitzroy House, Northampton
British Gypsum National Trophy - UK Winner 2018 - Plaster category
Products from British Gypsum’s Thistle plaster range have been used as part of a landmark project from St Andrews Healthcare, to deliver Europe’s largest adolescent mental health facility.
Designed to be a leading light in the provision of young people’s mental health care, Fitzroy House is a purpose built, two-storey facility that has been designed to provide specialised care for up to 110 young people, with some of the most complex mental health needs in the UK.
The aim was to create a facility with the best possible internal environment to facilitate patient recovery, therefore P+HS Architects consulted with psychiatrists, nursing teams, occupational therapists and patients at St Andrew’s on various aspects of the design. Throughout the project, the main objective was to create a flexible, durable, healthy building with a robust quality finish that would require minimal maintenance in a very busy environment.
