The Co-operative, Manchester
The challenging design set down by the client required both conceptual and detailed input with the architect throughout the project. The ultimate goal was to produce an inspirational working environment that was energy efficient, sustainable with a dramatic appearance.
The scale of the building is impressive and the flexibility and quality add to the reason this innovative project is an iconic building within the UK. When it opened it had the highest score ever achieved for a large office building under BREEAM in the world.
The open plan work areas required sound insulating, along with the large 14 floor atrium, which has benefited from an acoustic treatment to help reduce the reverberation within the cathedral like space. The impressive glazed dome roof required the installation of the drywall to be of the highest standard.
The detailing enables the partition’s to be removed with minimal damage to the surrounding structure, this will allow for flexibility and future proofing.
The building is designed to take into account the working environment and welfare of the staff.
