Frequently asked question

Do I need timber noggings when boarding a ceiling and if so what is required

This depends on a number of factors such as joist centres, board thickness, and performance requirements (e.g. vapour resistance and fire resistance performance). Please refer to WHITE BOOK Chapter 06 Section 06 Page 12 for more details.

If noggings are required they are typically 38mm x 38mm or 50mm x 50mm timber, located between joists and at the ceiling perimeter to support the edges / ends of the plasterboard.
