Main Focus
The main focus of the project was to meet the high acoustic and
fire protection performance criteria for this new 13-screen cinema
complex.
Challenge
The challenge was that none of the twin frame walls should be
rigidly braced together, in order to achieve ultimate structural
isolation. As this is structurally inadvisable, the challenge was
to provide some new form of acoustic brace that would reduce the
sound loss that might be generated by use of standard rigid
bracing.
Solution
The solution was to utilise GypWall AUDIO twin frame high performance wall,
clad with 3 layers of 15mm Gyproc SoundBloc and Isover General
Purpose Roll in the cavity. In conjunction with William Gower and
Ove Arup Acoustic Consultants, British Gypsum developed a new
Gypframe Acoustic Brace which then underwent intensive testing
at the Building Test Centre and achieved the designers requirements
for maximum acoustic isolation, whilst maintaining the structural
integrity of the system.
