Main Focus
The main focus of this project was to provide inter-cinema
sound insulation. The cinema includes eight auditoria of varying
sizes from 150 to 400 seats.
Challenge
The challenge was for the cinema shells to achieve
DnTw of at least 65dB between adjacent cinemas, and at
least 55dB between projection gallery and cinemas. In addition the
inter cinema wall construction to have Rw of at least
70dB and the cinema/projection wall a Rw of at least 60dB.
Solution
The solution was for the specification for the division
walls between cinema areas to be based on GypWall AUDIO twin frame high performance wall
construction of 11 metres in height, clad each side with 19mm
Gyproc Plank and 2 x 12.5mm Gyproc SoundBloc. The complete system,
with 3 layers of Isover General Purpose Roll (1000) insulation in
the cavity, was tested in laboratory conditions in advance and
tested again on site to ensure the performance criteria were
satisfactorily met.
The sound quality in the auditoria is excellent, since three layers
of plasterboard were also applied to the ceilings in addition to
the walls. The ceiling was also hung underneath the structure to
avoid any leakage of sound upwards.
