Main Focus
The main focus of this private finance initiative for Calderdale
Healthcare Trust, encompasses the demolition and refurbishment of
existing buildings on the hospital site, and construction of new
wards to accommodate 600 beds, a diagnostic block and a mental
health villa.
Challenge
The challenge was not only to meet the exacting technical
and performance requirements for the interior of this project, but
to deliver a standard-setting example of a
supplier/contractor/customer partnership, as highlighted in the
Egan Report "Rethinking Construction", along with key challenges of
maximising life cycle value, waste reduction, sustainability of
materials sourced, fast track construction and use of bespoke,
innovative solutions.
Solution
The solution was to involve British Gypsum at the design
stage, to enable all important elements to be built into the
ultimate design solution. The internal walls solution involved a
fully tested package, based on the GypWall ROBUST system, comprising high performance
'I' studs, lined with Gyproc DuraLine board. This system will
provide long term durability in a high traffic area susceptible to
impact damage and increased daily wear and tear. Significant
benefits in installation times are also being gained compared to
standard double board solutions traditionally specified in hospital
applications.
Fully tested solution for resistance in
hospital wards & corridors.
