The Code for Sustainable Homes

British Gypsum guide to achieving credits under the Health and Wellbeing category of the Code for Sustainable Homes

The Code for Sustainable Homes is a significant piece of legislation that has been developed to enable a step change in sustainable building practice for new homes. It is currently a mandatory requirement for all government funded social housing in England and Wales to be built to at least Code level 3. Since 1st May 2008, all new private homes are required to have a Code rating in the Home Information Pack (HIP). Where homes have been built to the Code for Sustainable Homes, a certificate showing the star rating will be available from the license Code assessor who carried out the assessment. Where the home has not been built to the Code, a nil-rated certificate must be issued.

Within the Health and Wellbeing category of the Code, credits are awarded for achieving higher standards of sound insulation than those given in the Building Regulations Approved Document E. This new guide has been developed to detail British Gypsum’s portfolio of enhanced sound insulating solutions. Featured within the guide are separating wall and floor systems for home builders wishing to demonstrate higher performance through the use of Pre-Completion Testing or Robust Details.
