BIM round table meeting

Welcome to the British Gypsum Building Information Modelling (BIM) Page

What is BIM?

BIM is an acronym for Building Information Modelling, or Building Information Model. It describes the process of designing a building collaboratively using one coherent system of computer models rather than as separate sets of drawings.

Bim Round table discussion

Experts from across the construction and design sectors met recently at the Barbican Centre in London for a roundtable on Building Information Modelling (BIM) hosted by British Gypsum. Chaired by leading architectural journalist, Amanda Birch, the event was organised to explore issues ranging from the importance of accurate data for BIM projects, to using BIM to create better buildings suited to end-users’ needs.

British Gypsum and BIM4M2 Group

BIM is altering the ways of working in the construction industry. British Gypsum, a key member of the BIM for Manufacturers and Manufacturing Group or BIM4M2, is exploring the technology’s benefits as well as the need to ensure the accuracy of all product and system data.

The BIM for Manufacturers and Manufacturing (BIM4M2) group has a clear vision. It is:

“For the UK construction product manufacturing sector to be recognised as a world leader in the integration of BIM and manufacturing technologies to supply the products and solutions for a sustainable built environment”

--BIM4M2

In order to achieve the BIM4M2 vision, manufacturers must supply the accurate information at an appropriate level of detail as required for their products to ensure they can feed into the model.

To support this, British Gypsum has created its own BIM objects hosted on the British Gypsum website via its White Book System Selector. The online tool is designed to streamline the specification process for construction professionals. It allows users to search and filter through tested British Gypsum partitions, wall lining and ceiling system solutions to select the best specifications for the project.
