Main focusThe main focus of this project was to provide a dramatic modern exhibition hall containing over 20 full-sized aircraft, including a B52 bomber, and to allow several contrasting and unusual views of the exhibits.
The challenge was to construct perimeter walls to the exhibition hall which followed a constant shallow radius sloping 30¼ back from vertical to "fly past" a cantilevered walkway and rising to 9m high at the highest point. The walls would also be subjected to critical lighting from a line of windows immediately above, which followed the radius.
The solution was for the specification for the perimeter walls to be based on GypWall CLASSIC metal stud partition (146mm 'Jumbo' metal studs) lined with 2 layers of 12.5mm Gyproc WallBoard fixed horizontally to both sides.
Also used on the project were Thistle HardWall and Thistle MultiFinish plasters.
