Ajish Joshy (Summer Placement)
Working with the Process Improvement Team.
Ajish Joshy completed a summer placement with British Gypsum in Barrow, he worked with the Process Improvement Team on implementing full phase analysis on the HX204 Moisture Balance.
I first heard about British Gypsum at a university careers fair and was intrigued to know more about the opportunities it offered. To learn more, I visited the British Gypsum website and, from there, found out about the summer placement. It sounded perfect for me and I knew I wanted to apply straight away.
Following a simple web application, I was invited to a face-to-face interview which was a great way to learn more about the company, and a lot less daunting than going to an assessment centre. Two weeks after the interview I found out that I’d been successful.
The main element of my placement was working on a live project, which was challenging, but meant I could see the real impact to the business, which was really beneficial. I also had constant support from my team, and the structured feedback process meant I progressed and developed skills throughout my placement.
While working with British Gypsum I also visited different parts of the business, including the mine at Barrow and the board plant at Robertsbridge, where I also attended an energy champions meeting, and was able to take part in the training days at Scalford Hall. The insightful trips and variety of activities kept the placement exciting and helped me learn about different aspects of the business.
Now that my summer placement is finished, I’m already excited to say I’m returning to complete a research project as part of my degree and am looking forward to re-joining the brilliant team.
