High Commended: AMRC Factory 2050, Rotherham
Plaster Category (highly commended Plasterboard Category)
The AMRC was established in 2001 as a £15 million collaboration between the University of Sheffield and aerospace giant Boeing, with support from Yorkshire Forward and the European Regional Development Fund. The University of Sheffield AMRC with Boeing secured funding for a £43 million state-of-the-art research factory to meet the future needs of aerospace and other high-value manufacturing industries.
The AMRC Factory 2050 is a ground breaking building and the UK’s first fully reconfigurable assembly and component manufacturing facility for collaborative research, capable of rapidly switching production between different high-value components and one-off parts. This project is a stunning example of architectural innovation.
It was a very challenging project from a fit out perspective, as it is a completely circular building with virtually no straight walls at all. Gyproc SoundBloc F was specified for this project as a multifunctional board that met all these requirements. The Architect was also keen on improving the well-being of the buildings occupants and specified Thistle PureFinish to skim all the walls.
