A: By using a British Gypsum plasterboard product. Please refer to the timber stud section of the WHITE BOOK for further information, or view the board product range.

Q: How do you increase the height of Gypframe metal stud?

A: By ‘splicing’ two studs together with an overlap of 600mm minimum, fix together using Wafer Head Drywall Screws (two to each flange).

Q: How do you incorporate plywood into metal stud partitions?

A: Use Gypframe Service Support Plate. You can also refer to the relevant sections of the WHITE BOOK.

Q: Can Gyproc plasterboard be used around fireplaces and wood burning stoves?

A: Gyproc plasterboard, including Gyproc FireLine, is not suitable for use in temperatures above 49oC.

Q: How do you fire protect structural steel sections?

A: Use the FireCase or GypLyner ENCASE system. Further information is available in the relevant section of the WHITE BOOK.

Q: How would you acoustically upgrade an existing masonry wall?

A: Use Gyproc SoundBloc board and Isover insulation within GypLyner IWL or GypLyner UNIVERSAL systems or use Gyproc TriLine fixed by the DriLyner SI or DriLyner RF system. Selection depends on a number of factors such as type of background, height of lining and performance requirements and board type. Please refer to the relevant sections of the WHITE BOOK for further information if required.

Q: What is the maximum height for GypLyner UNIVERSAL wall lining system?

A: GypLyner UNIVERSAL does not have a height restriction as it is fixed into the structural wall at 800mm centres and supported by the structural floor and soffit.

Q: What wall lining systems are available and how would you select the correct type?

A: DriLyner BASIC, TL, SIMF & RFGypLyner UNIVERSAL and GypLyner IWL. Selection depends on a number of factors such as type of background, height of lining, performance requirements and board type. Please refer to the relevant section of the WHITE BOOK for further information if required.

Q: What board is recommended for ceramic tiling?

A: Glasroc H TILEBACKER or Moisture Resistant grade Gyproc plasterboards, subject to conditions.

Q: How do you upgrade existing walls thermally?

A: CasoLine MF, CasoLine CURVE, GypLyner UNIVERSAL, and CasoLine QUICK-LOCK GRID are available. Selection depends on a number of factors such as required plenum size, performance requirements (e.g. fire resistance, sound insulation, sound absorption), board type and aesthetics. Please refer to the ceiling sections of the WHITE BOOK for further information if required.

Q: How do you upgrade the fire and/or acoustic performance of a timber floor from below

A: There is a range of British Gypsum ceiling systems, Gypframe RB1 Resilient BarGypLyner UNIVERSAL ceiling and CasoLine MF ceiling systems, incorporating Gyproc SoundBloc or Gyproc FireLine board in conjunction with Isover insulation. Please refer to the ceiling section of the WHITE BOOK for further information if required.

Q: How do you provide a 30 or 60 minute fire-rated horizontal membrane?

A: Use CasoLine MF incorporating Gyproc WallBoard or Gyproc FireLine board and insulation. For 30 minutes fire resistance in accordance with BS 476: Part 22, use two layers 12.5mm Gyproc WallBoard overlaid with 100mm Isover Spacesaver Ready-Cut. For 60 minutes fire resistance in accordance with BS 476: Part 22, use two layers 15mm Gyproc FireLine board overlaid with 30mm stone mineral wool (minimum 24 kg/m3).

Q: At what centres are Gypframe MF7 and Gypframe MF5 installed?

A: Generally for plasterboard, Gypframe MF7 Primary Support Channel is located at maximum 1200mm centres and Gypframe MF5 Ceiling Section at maximum 450mm centres. However, these general guidelines may vary depending on the board being used and total weight. Please refer to the CasoLine MF system page or the ceiling section of the WHITE BOOK for further information if required.

Q: What are the maximum weights a CasoLine MF ceiling can support?

A: For the standard Soffit Cleat, suspension and grid lay-out of 1200mm x 1200mm, the maximum weight (including weight of board and any insulation) is 30 kg/m2. However, by closing down the centres of the standard Soffit Cleat, suspension and grid lay-out, the maximum weight (including weight of board and any insulation) can be increased to 60 kg/m2. Please refer to the CasoLine MF system page and the ceiling section of the WHITE BOOK for further information if required.

Q: What is the maximum temperature that Thistle plaster can be used at?

A: 49oC

Q: What is the fire resistance performance of Gyproc plasterboard?

A: Fire resistance performance is generally based on the overall construction, e.g. partition, floor or structural steelwork, and not just the board itself. Please refer to the relevant section of the WHITE BOOK for further details.
